Deepening Your Friendship With God

Deepening Your Friendship With God – Bible Lesson. Teen Bible Lesson.

God is our Creator, Savior, and King. But He also wants to be our friend. If you’re using this post in a Bible class or a Bible study, you have my permission to print it as is. All Scripture references are taken from the New International Version.

1. A best friend is someone we talk to (communicate with) a lot.

Psalm 55:16, 17As for me, I call to God,and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16 – 18Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

  • Circle the words or phrases that indicate when you can talk to God.
  • List some times during your day when you can talk to God.

2. Sometimes best friends need time together with no one else around.

Matthew 6:6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

  • Underline anything that indicates we need to spend time with God alone and uninterrupted.
  • List two places where you could get alone with God.

  • List some things you would like to talk with God about alone.

3. We can be ourselves around a best friend.

Matthew 6:7, 8And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

  • Why do you think we can be ourselves around God and not have to pretend to be people we’re not?

4. A best friend listens to our problems and help us not to worry.

Philippians 4:6, 7Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Put a check mark next to the words that tell you nothing is too big or small to tell God about.
  • Draw a gift-wrapped package around the word that tells you what God gives us when we tell Him about our problems.

5. A best friend helps us with our problems.

Psalm 34:17, 18The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

  • Put a squiggly line beneath the words that tell you what the Lord will do for the righteous who cry out to Him.
  • Write down one problem for which you want God’s help. (It’s okay to write it in code or symbols so only you know what it is.)
